For PBS support, I recommend you to use the YAPP (Yet Another PBS Patch), which can be found on the TT-Forums/OpenTTD Development. This is a realistic PBS patch, for which you only need to place signals on places where trains should stop (so no two-way signals in front of a station, but just one-way signals facing towards the station would do the trick). These PBS signals will allow trains to pass them in the opposite direction, unless you choose the One-Way variant via the Signal GUI.

 

OpenTTD is still improving, and besides the things the others already mentioned, OpenTTD also got support for 32bpp graphics in the stable builds, which make it possible to use more realistic and better-looking sprites, as well as using an extra zoom-level.

 

Just check it out, indeed!
